40 new wines added to the menu is great news for wine lovers
There’s great news for wine lovers at Lola & Simon, where proprietors, Nico and Kirstin, have added more than 40 new wines to their wine menu.
As you’d expect, the wines come from their homelands of Argentina (Nico) and New Zealand (Kirstin) and as well as those countries’ most famous names – Malbecs and Sauvignon Blancs - they’ve included Pinot Gris, Semillon, Chardonay, Voignier, Syrah, Tannat, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and many more.
And how did they know which wines should be included? It was easy, Nico and Kirstin personally chose the ones they thought were excellent!
However, the star of the show is Malbec, Nico and Kirstin are mad about Malbec so it comes as no surprise that there are 15 on the list, many of which are from the Cantena Zapata vineyard whose export manager, Nicholas Cantena, was named the Decanter 2009 winemaker of the year.
Argentina is one of the world’s largest wine-producing countries and it has taken the Malbec grape, which originated in France, to its heart. The wide variations in the topography and climate in Argentina have resulted in a variety of different wines from the Malbec grape so whatever your taste: big bold and spicy, full-flavoured and rich, or round and elegant, there’ll be a Malbec to suit you.
But don’t worry if you find such a wide choice confusing and you don’t know where to start, they’re making it very easy for you with all the premium wines are offered at very reasonable prices with many available by the glass. Or, if you really want to experiment and conduct your own wine tasting, alone or with friends, Nico and Kirstin have introduced 50ml tasting glasses.
This is all thanks to a new high-tech wine preserver that keeps all the wine in tip-top condition so there’s less waste.
The food is also influenced by their homelands with plenty of beef and lamb, but there is also a good choice for vegetarians.
